For The Love of DOG

Our family has expanded! I know I said I had a low-key Cinco De Mayo, and I sort of did...outside of the fact that we adopted a pup!

I don't have a ton to say right now — we're still learning about him and he's still learning about us, but he is the sweetest boy. He's a 6-year-old Turkish Terrier mix who spent most of his life as a yard dog without much enrichment, so being somewhere with walks and playtime and training has been a lot different for him.

He knows basic commands, but we've already enrolled him in obedience school (starting later this month) and I've been working with him to solidify his prompts at home. He loves other dogs and values being told he's a good boy very much. He also likes to gently suck on blankets, which is strange yet endearing. Crate training has been no issue, and he loves hanging out in there while I'm working during the day. We're feeling very fortunate!

Bird is keeping her distance, and we've installed some baby gates so she has her own space in the house. She's starting to get curious and has come downstairs a few times when he's quiet, but if he moves at all she immediately runs off. Considering that she used to be besties with a Great Dane I'm unsure where this fear is coming from, but we're just taking it one day at a time. It's been hard on me to not have her hanging out with the fam, but I know that in time they'll grow to be great friends.

So that's what's new around here — just being dogandcat mom and reminding everyone always that they are very good boys and girls! If anyone has any must-have pet products, please let me know!
